Loreto Grammar School's brilliant young athletes have laid down a challenge to the rest of the nation, “Catch me if you can” for the National Schools' Championships on December 5 in Bedford.

Previous national winners in 2012 at junior level and regular qualifiers throughout the last decade, Loreto is recognised nationwide as one of the teams to beat for cross country.

This year the juniors from years 7 and 8 qualified second in the North-West, with the intermediates from Year 9 and 10 winning the regional event in gruelling conditions on a rain and wind swept day through the thick mud in Bolton.

Loreto Grammar School’s Head of PE Miss Ball said: “Our intermediate team features some of the national winners from junior level at 2012 and they will be looking to repeat that success and we have high hopes of the new intake of junior runners who showed the type of true grit and determination we have come to expect despite the conditions in Bolton.”

In the regional qualifiers. Alice Stiles for the intermediates and Jessica Spilsbury for the juniors were both second in the individual events.
