Extra-Curricular and Leadership

Our daughter has benefited from the extra-curricular activities, overall I think she has received an excellent all-round education and is in a far stronger position to make the transition to university and onwards into her future life from having attended Loreto.

Year 13 parent

The Sixth Formers here genuinely are school leaders and role models who have a say in the running of the school.

Senior Prefect Committee

The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girls are elected by Sixth Form students and teaching staff after submitting written applications and taking part in an interview process.

We have a system of prefects in Year 12 who are assigned to offer assistance and support to form classes in the main school and many Sixth Formers are trained Peer Mentors or SEND mentors. Form Prefects have one session with their form every week in which they run activities ranging from revision and study techniques, to dealing with friendship issues.

Subject Reps

All subject departments recruit Subject Representatives, who work as ambassadors for their A Level subjects, running clubs for Key Stage 3 students, setting up academic mentoring and study groups, and giving advice and guidance to Year 10 and 11 students choosing their A Level options.

School Magazine

Our annual school magazine, Loreto Life, is planned, edited and produced by a team of Year 12 volunteers. They work with students throughout the school to make sure that all year groups are represented and that, in just 40 pages, the life of an academic year at Loreto is reflected in high-quality journalism.

Chaplaincy, Amnesty and Social Justice

Our Catholic ethos underpins everything we do, and the spirit of Mary Ward to ‘be seekers of Truth and doers of Justice’. In recent years, students have led a number of social justice campaigns through our Chaplaincy Group, our IMPACT Group and the Loreto Amnesty Group. These include working towards Fairtrade status, raising awareness about Human Trafficking, and supporting the rights of political prisoners around the world.

MedSoc

Students who are interested in a medical career have the opportunity to meet regularly through the sixth-form led MedSoc. The society helps future medics learn more about profession through presentations form guest speakers, sharing ideas and reflections on their own work experiences, and discussion sessions on current healthcare, clinical and ethical questions.
