Student Support
The Sixth Form at Loreto favours a holistic approach to its students: consequently pastoral and academic support are indivisible.
The Sixth Form is divided into some 16 Tutor Groups. Numbers are small, with all the advantages of personal care that this brings and students stay in the same group with the same Form Tutor as far as possible throughout Years 12 and 13. There is a strong hierarchy of support. In the case of any issues concerning attendance, punctuality, dress code, academic progress or personal problems, the Form Tutor is the first port of call. The Form Tutor will work closely with the subject Heads of Department where appropriate. If concerns persist, the Form Tutor will approach the Year 12 or the Year 13 Co-ordinator who will follow up problems and will, if need be, consult the Senior Management team via the Head of Sixth Form. We are fortunate to also have the services of Mrs Cainen, the School Chaplain, and the services of a professional counsellor.
Students praise the support and guidance they receive from all staff, which is effective and timely.
Ofsted
Students are closely monitored via a rigorous calendar of support. Both Year 12 and 13 have a Target-Setting and Review Week in the Autumn Term, where they are able to have one-to-one discussions with their subject teachers and record their targets and action points in their Progress Portfolio. This is followed by Form Tutor Review Day when each student has an interview with her Form Tutor. Following this Interim Reports are distributed via the Tutorial Time Programme. Parents of students flagged up as giving cause for concern during this process are invited to a meeting with the Head of Sixth Form and their daughter in order to draw up appropriate supportive measures. Later in the year full written Reports are distributed and are discussed individually via the Tutorial Time Programme. Again parents will be invited to interview if their daughters are deemed as giving cause for concern. The Head of Sixth Form will contact parents at any point in the year if this is deemed necessary. Year 12 and Year 3 Parents’ Evening are also held annually. See link to Key Dates for Sixth Form.
The school allows different personalities to develop within a disciplined, loving environment. The Catholic ethos is essential to Loreto’s uniqueness do not allow it to be diluted. Thank you for the marvelous opportunities our daughter has had.
Parents’ Questionnaire 2008/2009
Supportive measures often applied following meetings with parents are weekly individual student support sessions with the relevant Year Co-ordinator, assistance with organisation via the use of short term and long term study planners, timetabled lessons in the Library and referral to the counsellor if desired. In extreme cases individual Student Contracts are drawn up between the student, parent and Head of Sixth Form who monitors this weekly. At this stage, the student’s position in the school is under review.
Pastoral care is good. There is always concern about home life

The Tutorial Time Programme also offers a level of general support, with sessions devoted amongst other issues to Sixth Form problems, handling stress, time-management, study skills and revision techniques.
