Curriculum

6th Form Curriculum

Our Sixth Form Curriculum is exceptionally rich. We offer some 30 subjects at AS/A2 Level. Students may opt to continue with subjects with which they are familiar, or they may opt to take up a new subject, such as Economics, English Language, Government and Politics, Physical Education, Psychology, Sociology or Theatre Studies. It is usual to study at least 4 subjects to AS Level, and at least 3 to A2 Level. We advise students to opt for no more than 2 new subjects. Our Curriculum provision is extremely flexible: we construct our option blocks around the students’ choices and 99% of girls are successful in studying all the options they desire. We also offer a highly individualised Curriculum, so that for an increasing number of Year 13 students their academic Curriculum is “tailor-made”, with a mix of A2 and additional AS subjects.

We have been encouraged to achieve

A wide range of additional qualifications are also available: the Extended Project Qualification, AS Critical Thinking, AS/A2 General Studies, Science in Society, FSMQ, ECDL and the National Sports Leader Award. Support is also given for application to Oxbridge and preparation for BMAT and LNAT.

Many of the above are administered via our Life Skills Programme which also offers a range of opportunities such as Anti- Bullying Mentor Training, Chaplaincy training at Manchester University, Karate, Photography, Sport for Fitness and a range of programmes that our students deliver in primary Schools: Drama, French, the Minimus Latin scheme, and Science. A very positive feature of the Life Skills Programme is the opportunity afforded for students to arrange relevant work experience during this time, extending it beyond the time allocation if their timetables permit. This has been invaluable for those intending to study Law, Medicine, medically related professions and teaching.

Teachers display a profound knowledge of their subject and students enjoy the many opportunities they have for independent learning”

Sixth Form students also play a key role in the running of the school, ranging from acting as Prefects to KS3 and KS4 forms, Anti-bullying Mentors, Subject Mentors to serving in the interview process for new senior members of staff. Students help to run a variety of clubs for younger pupils, (for example Classics, Drama, Eco Club, French, Geography, Sports and SVP). Students also act as catechists in our Preparatory School, while they are relied upon to play an active role in Open Evenings, the Entrance Examination and Year 7 Taster Day.
