Vision: To provide an opportunity to explore in creative joy the possibilities of interacting in the world around us. The interaction is such that it illuminates the self, gives joy to others and reflects the creative power of God.
Life Skills is a unique department, which has been created with four main aims: to develop Enrichment Empowerment Leadership and Confidence. It is offered to pupils in key stage 4 and 5, for 2 periods per week.
The aim of Life Skills at Loreto is to provide pupils with an opportunity to explore courses which will enable them to develop talents and skills which may not be available within the normal curriculum. There is an emphasis on encouraging girls to try courses of which they may not necessarily know anything about and in so doing will discover new facets of themselves.
Most course numbers are smaller than normal teaching groups and though structured, tend to be of an informal nature.
Life Skills has been on offer at Loreto for three years and has grown to incorporate all the upper school. There are thirty nine different courses on offer within the Life Skills Department this year. Some of the courses are examined externally (General Studies, and Science for Public Understanding Free Standing Maths Qualification, European Computer Driving Licence) and some are certificated internally, such as St. John’s Ambulance First Aid Certificate.
Each year there is a variety of different teachers who volunteer to teach this subject and offer their various specialties and interests.
All pupils’ courses are tracked throughout the four years of upper school, are assessed and reported to parents.
